MSSA survey gets large student response

The results of the Minnesota State Student Association Tuition and Fee Survey have been released and most students want to see moderate tuition increases with cuts made to services.
Of the more than 1,100 students who completed the survey, 60 percent of them would like to see 3 to 7 percent increases while 34 percent want to keep increases low at 3 percent or less with cuts made to services.
MSSA President Ryan Anderson said he was pleased to see that a total of 47 percent of students haven't let anticipated debt affect their major or career choice, but disappointed to see 33 percent have. He also noted 66 percent of students said they don't use Student Health Services.
"Probably about half of them never will," Anderson said.
Anderson said health services acts as an important resource to students with no other option and that money is subsidized to health services instead of a requirement that all students on campus have health insurance.
"This is a question I struggle with," Anderson said. "Do we do this or require health insurance? There's no good answer."
Currently, the university only requires international students to have health insurance.
