Minnesota State will celebrate Mardi Gras next week with giveaways and food.

Through Tuesday, dining services will provide New Orleans-style menu items such as jambalaya, bayou blacken tilapia, seafood okra gumbo and banana foster pancakes at The Market, Grill 155 and Stacks during breakfast and lunch hours.

Free samplings of Jazzman's Cafe beverages will be given away in the Centennial Student Union, Morris Hall Commons, Memorial Library and Myer's Field House. Daily specials and discounts will also be offered at Jazzman's.

From 11 a.m. to noon Fat Tuesday, the café will distribute "King Cake." Per tradition, whoever receives the piece of cake with the little baby gets a prize. The prize is a year's worth of free drip coffee from Jazzman's.

Mardi Gras will also feature the first performance on Jazzman's new stage. The Jim McGuire Jazz Trio will perform from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday and Fat Tuesday brings shows from the Blue Ox Jazz Babies at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
