Like Mike Ditka and Joe Torre, ISU assistant gymnastics coach Janet Anson hopes to become the next great athlete to have success in coaching. After finishing her Cyclone career in 2007 as arguably one of the best Cyclone gymnasts ever, she joined the 2008 squad as a volunteer assistant coach.

From April 25 to April 27, two teams represented the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the 2008 Pontiac American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) Basketball Championships on the campus of North Carolina State in Raleigh, North Carolina. Both teams won their gender's respective regional tournament held at the REC, and represented UW-L at the national tournament.

Iowa State finished 44th nationally in the final winter standings of the Director's Cup, a measure of the total success of Division I athletic programs. To improve on that ranking, developing ISU sports programs will need to continue to grow next season. Iowa State finished ahead of four Big 12 athletic programs - Colorado, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Baylor - in the Director's Cup.

Mark Phelps to take over as new men's basketball head coach

The spotlight of Drake University Athletics shone on Mark Phelps as he was introduced to a packed Levitt Hall as the new men's head basketball coach.

At last Monday's press conference, Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb made it clear that Phelps was the man for the job and that he fit all the requirements that the Drake administration was looking for in the person to lead the program.

MSU extends streak to 18

The Minnesota State women's softball team extended its winning streak to 18 games Tuesday, sweeping nonconference opponent Upper Iowa 8-5 and 1-0 in Fayette, Iowa.

Senior Abby Wagner collected three hits in the first game, with a two-RBI single in the first inning, adding to the rally.

One year was all it took for Armando Espinosa to find the root of all evil for the Cyclone tennis team. It was not the level of talent on the roster that caught the ire of the first year assistant coach. Also spared was the team's playing facilities and coaching staff.
