The Joys of Opinion Writing

		The Joys of Opinion Writing

There seems to be a lot of people butt-hurt about my previous column.

Too offensive for you, sunshine?

Well, what offends me is spending a lifetime cursed with crippling worry over foreign and domestic affairs while a lunch table full of pigeons is talking about what happened on the O.

It's time to make this campus healthy for everyone

I feel as though it is time to readdress the idea of making this campus smoke-free. Walking to class with smoke in my face from the person ahead is not my choice. Walking out of class into a cloud of smoke from the people 15 feet away from the entry to the building is not my choice.

GIONNETTE: Conquering campus

Iowa State Daily, Iowa State University, IA

After finishing unloading the contents of my mom's Honda CR-V into my old RCA dorm room before my freshman year, my parents sent me on my way somewhat nonchalantly and quietly cheered their way back to the Twin Cities as they celebrated finally completing their 31-year sentence of having kids in their home.

Rec renovations

It's sour grapes to complain about a campuswide vote fairly lost. It's a journalistic prerequisite to dissect a referendum that was done without integrity. Since the Board of Regents approved the student fee increase, it's crucial that we're vigilant about dissecting the latter.

The task of recycling brings with it the excuse of laziness

The Times-Delphic, Drake University, IA

One week shy of Earth Day, the Stalnaker Executive Council decided to abolish the recycling program. This wouldn't be such a big deal if they had a reason for it, but upon asking members of the EC, I found that they didn't. Not only is this a serious breach of the responsibilities of the EC, what kind of example does this set?

When I asked members of the EC why they stopped doing recycling, I got long winded answers about how it took too long, and it was too hard to separate the recycling, which is basically just laziness in so many words.

Iowa State Daily, Iowa State University, IA

If you are like me, you are pretty mad that global warming has decided to forsake us folks here in Ames this winter. I'm not a big fan of cold weather, but I can handle it. The only thing I can't handle is gas bills during cold weather. They really ruin your day.

With the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel's founding coming on May 14, it is essential to remind ourselves of the situation in the Middle East, which seems to ebb and flow toward peaceful resolution every day. Our consciences - collective and individual - demand that we pay attention to the world around us and demand action for change.

Pope? Fine by me.

I am a firm believer in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that creates a wall of separation between church and state. I do not believe that the government should endorse any particular religion, but we all know that this is not the case.
